Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect behind a series of unforgettable images favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, including the soft-colored suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including a number of outfits for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a true visionary whose impact on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
