Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his future after a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got a lot of backing from management,” Slot stated.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”

He added, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Discussions with The Board

Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach said:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”

He added, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Recurring Issues and Player Response

The manager lamented familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”

He added, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with results this poor.”

Jones stated, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”

“Our aim is to get this team return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
