The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and supported its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this charming family go about their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its current cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
